Program Evaluation Yields Positive Results
Evaluations Yield Positive Results
Evaluations of The Power to Change for Schools in Chicago Public Schools showed the following positive results:
- Students reported decrease in suspensions;
- Students thought twice about being violent;
- Teachers reported noted improvements in students’ behavior; and
- A school administrator reported office visits for bad behavior decreased.
Upon completing the program, participating students:
- Significantly increased emotional intelligence by regulating emotions and using emotions positively to solve problems;
- Significantly increased the ability to control impulses and act in a responsible and considerate way towards others;
- Significantly decreased verbal and relational aggression towards others—a decreased trend in physical aggression also was observed;
- Enjoyed the program, felt comfortable attending the groups and connected with the group facilitator(s); and
- Felt the skills and knowledge gained in the program were useful for their everyday life.
